Recommendations and I

Today, I'd like to talk about the gems I have encountered while browsing YouTube. Like my previous post, I will add links for the songs and the Artists' Pages that I'll discuss here.

So before going any further, a big shout-out to good friends, Instagram Sponsored Ads and the YouTube algorithm that introduces you to songs and artists you wouldn't have otherwise known existed.

Be forewarned that this is going to be a long one. I have listened to an army of artists since the lockdown began. It was, therefore, really difficult to pick out a handful of them. I tried including artists from different genres and keep things interesting. Hope you like it!

Zubaan Music Project. I only came to know about them from a news article featuring an interview with the founder, Kavish Seth, an indie musician and IIT, Bombay graduate. I discovered their song, Asadh Mein, on a lazy afternoon and have become a fan of theirs. Zubaan is a wonderful initiative encouraging performances and collaborations with indie artists from rural parts of the country and giving them a platform.

World's First Cinema. Their music came to me via a sponsored ad on Instagram. Their song Red Run Cold often plays on loop every time I need to concentrate. If you are looking for some angsty, cinematic, alt-rock music, they are most definitely a very good choice.

Kanishk Seth. I came across his album Trance With Khusrow, while listening to Asadh Mein on YouTube. Aane Ko Hai Khwaab is my everyday lullaby. One thing I love about Kanishk's music is he's found this perfect blend of electronic music with the elements of classical.

The Midnight. A very close friend introduced me to their music. The heavy influence of synth and retroelements add an old-world, nostalgic charm to their songs. Out of all their songs, Explorers deserves a special mention, I think.

The Local Train. I think I'll be kissing my sister when I meet her next for introducing me to their music. The vocals, the arrangements and the lyrics all hit the exact right spots and create magic. I'd suggest you take an afternoon off, close your eyes and listen to their entire discography, preferably on a rainy day and with a glass of wine or masala chai to go with. While I love all of their songs, Aaoge Tum Kabhi will have all my love!

Noah Kahan. I've been fangirling over his voice for a few months now. He's probably my most interesting find, so far, I think. I'd heard his song on yet another Instagram Sponsored Ad. And by the time I could make out the lyrics of the song, I'd lost the ad. I spent days trying to get the tune out of my head when YouTube sneaks the song (Pride) into my recommendations. I've never felt so thankful.

Kalyan Majumdar. This list would be incomplete if I don't mention him. And I'm not just saying this because he's my best friend. The magic he weaves with his sitar is unbelievable. So if you're looking to unwind after a long day at work, I recommend, you check out his music.

So these were a handful of artists I have been listening to during the lockdown. Let me know how you liked their music. What were your lockdown discoveries? I'm hoping you too found some wonderful music via ads and suggestions.
