Hey there! I hope you are doing well and staying safe. I had a lot going on this last week. So here I am with a brand new post as an apology for my radio silence over the past week.
The weather has been so perfect and all I could think about was what would be better than a nice cup of tea, a good book. So without further ado, here I am with what counts as a perfect companion on these rainy, stormy days, for me. Ideally, it would involve lots of napping, khichdi, pakoras and litres of masala chai. This along with a good book is my perfect recipe for the rainy season.
My most favourite thing to do when it rains is jumping in muddy puddles. Juvenile as might sound, the joys and pleasure of impulsively jumping into a puddle of dirty, muddy water is unparalleled. However, I don't remember the last time I did that. So I am just going to think about how good it felt and leave it at that.
The next best thing to do is rain-gazing (a lot like star gazing). For as long as I can remember, I have loved watching the raindrops fall. I don't know what it is but watching the drops fall fascinates me to no end. I remember I would pick two champion droplets and watch them race to the bottom of the windowpane, trickling down, joining with droplets, growing but not really. Sometimes, that is all you need to do.
Baaz. Reading Baaz by Anuja Chauhan on a rainy afternoon has kind of become a ritual for me. Knowing about the bitter-sweet, not-so-happily ever after note that the story ends on, hasn't affected my choice a bit. I think it has something to do with the author's way with words. So if I was smiling slightly wider last Thursday, know that I owed that smile to Miss Chauhan.
This past month, I imbibed a rather unhealthy habit. Drinking milk tea. For as long as I can remember, we have only had liquor tea. But the milk tea, made with sugar and crushed ginger and really creamy milk seemed to fit in so well with this rainy season. Despite protests from the elders, we youngsters have been continuing this love affair, rather successfully, if I may say so myself.
Impromptu khichdi feasts is another activity that my family loves. On a random rainy day, we will all decide that we'll procrastinate all day and have steaming khichdi with pakodas and omelettes. So we always wait for the stars to align for that one impromptu decision to happen.
Movie Marathons is one thing we love doing as a family. A major portion of our last week was per ritual, dedicated to watching underappreciated, crappy and essentially nonsensical movies. We did pepper it with some nice web series to ensure that the balance was maintained.
So that is basically what my family and I prefer doing when we are all under the same roof. What are your thoughts on what constitutes a perfect rainy day routine? Do you like spending it alone or is it the company of loved ones that you prefer? Let me know your thoughts on this.
If you've made it this far, thank you for reading! I would only like to add that I feel really thankful that I can enjoy just days and get to share them with some of the people I love most.
